Chennai, June 17 (BPNS)

Super star of Tamil movies, ‘Thalapathy’ Vijay is planning a political entry and is aiming to fill the vacuum caused by the passing away of towering leaders of Tamil politics, former Chief Minister’s Karunanidhi and Jayalalithaa.

Vijay had on Saturday interacted with the first three rank holders in the SSLC and Plus two examination from all assembly constituencies of Tamil Nadu. The super star made all the arrangements for the travel, stay and other incidental expenses of those attended along with their parents in Chennai.

The Super Star in his speech while interacting with the students evoked the names of Babasahib Ambedkar, Thiruvallur and Kamaraj who are highly respected in the social life of Tamil Nadu. He also called upon the children to advise their parents not to cast their precious votes by accepting money from political parties.

It may be noted that the  Thalapathy Vijay Makkal Iyyakam (TVMI) which is the Vijay fans club has been active for the past few years in social activities.  While the organisation was registered in 2009 its been active in the social and community outreach across the state since the past few years only.

Sources close to the actor told BPNS that Vijay is aiming to fill the vacuum created by the demise of towering leaders of Tamil political arena, M. Karunanidhi and Dr. J. Jayalalithaa. As per the information he received following a detailed survey conducted at the grass root level using a national agency of repute, the feedback was that other than Stalin there was no leader with Pan Tamil Nadu presence.

With the AIADMK bruised and battered following back to back electoral defeats since the 2019 loksabha elections, there is no proper opposition to Stalin in Tamil Nadu. Even though, BJP state president, Annamalai is trying desperately to act as an opposition to Stalin, the BJP don’t have strength across the state and hence he is not able to fit in as an opposition leader.

Sources in the TVMI told BPNS that Vijay has met a few retired bureaucrats, journalists and some influential social and political leaders to discuss about his political entry. While the super star is not planning a move in the 2024 loksabha elections, he is clearly targeting the 2026 assembly elections.

Vijay has taken a decision for a grand political entry after the reigning superstar of Tamil movie industry, Rajanikanth backing out from a political entry at the last moment after having serious discussions with the BJP leadership including Prime Minister, Narendra Modi and Home minister ,Amit Shah.

The superstar has closely studied the bylaws of both Dravidian parties, DMK and AIADMK and has asked his strategists to structure the new party’s bylaw in such a manner that it is hybrid of the bylaw of the two Dravidian parties.

It may be recalled that Vijay fans have contested elections in the 2021 rural body elections but in independent symbols. 129 of those contested under the umbrella of Vijay fans have won the elections.

Bussy N. Anand, a former MLA of the Congress from Puducherry is now the general secretary of TVMI and is properly structuring the pluses and minuses his movement will have. However, Bussy Anand was not available for comments.

It has to be seen how the people of Tamil Nadu who have accepted, the transformation of  MGR and Jayalalithaa from  Tamil matinee idols to political leaders, will accept the entry of Thalapathi Vijay.
