Tribal man trampled to death in Coimbatore forest range

In a drastic incident, a 57-year-old tribal man was trampled to death by a wild elephant on late Sunday night. The body of the tribal was found in Anakatti forest on Monday morning.

In a drastic incident, a 57-year-old tribal man was trampled to death by a wild elephant on late Sunday night. The body of the tribal was found in Anakatti forest on Monday morning. This is the seventh person who was killed by a wild elephant in the Coimbatore forest division in this year.

Tamil Nadu forest department officials told BPNS that the deceased was identified as N. Maruthan, a person residing in Senguttai tribal settlement in the Periyanaickenpalayam forest range in Coimbatore.

An information was received by the Periyanaickenpalayam forest range office on Sunday evening at 6.15 pm that Maruthan who had gone into the forest in search of missing cattle had not returned back.

Forest range officer of Periyanaickenpalayam, N. Saravanan led the team of officials to the forest and conducted a massive search on the morning of Monday. After around one hour of search, the forest team found the dead body of Maruthan who was found trampled to death by a wild elephant.

The Karumadi police in Coimbatore reached the spot after being alerted by the forest department officials and took the body to Mettupalayam government hospital for postmortem.
