Tasmac to shut down 500 liquor outlets in TN from June 22

Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (Tasmac ), the Tamil Nadu government-controlled cooperative, which is the monopoly body for selling liquor, will shut down 500 of its outlets from June 22, Thursday.

Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (Tasmac ), the Tamil Nadu government-controlled cooperative, which is the monopoly body for selling liquor, will shut down 500 of its outlets from June 22, Thursday.

This is following the election promise of the DMK that once voted to power it would move ahead for step by step prohibition in the state. The arrested minister Senthil Balaji who was then the minister for Excise in Tamil Nadu government had during the last assembly session promised on the floor of the house in April 2023, that the state government would shut down 500 Tasmac outlets.

A Government Order was issued dated April 20, 2023 that the government would shut down 500 Tasmac liquor outlets in the state.

Tasmac in a statement on Wednesday said that it has identified 500 outlets in the state and would be shut down from Thursday onwards on the basis of the GO issued on April 20, 2023.

It may be noted that there are presently 5329 Tasmac liquor outlets in Tamil Nadu and of which 500 will be shut down.
