Kamal Haasan gifts car to Coimbatore woman bus driver Sharmila after she lost her job

Tamil Super star and President of Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM), Kamal Haasan gifted a car to Sharmila, the first woman bus driver of Coimbatore district of Tamil Nadu.

Tamil Super star and President of Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM), Kamal Haasan gifted a car to Sharmila, the first woman bus driver of Coimbatore district of Tamil Nadu. It may be noted that Sharmila was forced to quit her job after DMK leader and Member of Parliament and Chief Minister Stalin’s sister, Kanimozhi boarded the bus which became viral in social media.

Sharmila had told the media that she quit her job after the conductor of the bus asking Kanimozhi to take a ticket despite being told not to do so. The owner of the bus also did not support Sharmila and told her that she had invited Kanimozhi for getting publicity.

Kamal Haasan in a statement on Monday said that the car was gifted to Sharmila on behalf of Kamal Panbattu Maiam or Kamal Cutural Centre.  He had told press persons that he was anguished at the treatment meted out to Sharmila and was determined that she become an entrepreneur.

The  Vikram star said, “ She worked hard for her dream of becoming a bus driver and had performed the challenging task effectively. She has received appreciation for that from various quarters.”

The actor-turned-politician said that a recent discussion on Sharmila had come to his attention and that he was very hurt. He said that Sharmila should not be just a driver and be an inspiration for thousands of Sharmila’s .

Kamal Haasan said that Sharmila will resume her journey as a rental car driver cum entrepreneur and said that he wanted civil society to stand by women who have been suppressed for years and years.

He said, “ My best wishes to daughter Sharmila”.
