AIADMK general secretary and former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS) said that the party has achieved a historic feat by enrolling 1.6 crore members in a 75 day drive.
The AIADMK leader said that this showed that the party cadre base was intact and that the AIADMK was the only party that has a huge cadre strength. EPS was speaking to reporters after releasing the logo of the party’s massive public rally to take place in Madurai on August 20th.
The senior leader said that the membership drive was renewal of old membership and enrolment of new members. He said that this was a mandatory exercise that was taking place once every five years in the party.
The former Chief Minister also said that no party in the country has achieved such a feat in 75 days. He said that the party men had thwarted the attempts of its opponents including the DMK to defeat the party. EPS added that there were strong criticisms by the opponents that the AIADMK had split vertically but the enrolment of 1.6 members in a span of 75 days proved that the party was intact at the cadre level.
It may be noted that former Chief Minister and coordinator of AIADMK, O. Panneerselvam (OPS) and his close associates were expelled from the party in September 2022 leading to the rumours that AIADMK was lost of its cadre strength as it was a divided party.
The enrolment of 1.6 crore cadres has given the much needed fillip to the AIADMK general secretary, Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS) who has emerged as the undisputed leader in the party.
