DVAC files charge sheet against former TN Minister Kamaraj

Tamil Nadu Department of Vigilance and Anti Corruption (DVAC) has filed a charge sheet against former Tamil Nadu minister and AIADMK leader, Kamaraj in a case related to disproportionate assets.

Tamil Nadu Department of Vigilance and Anti Corruption (DVAC) has filed a charge sheet against former Tamil Nadu minister and AIADMK leader, Kamaraj in a case related to disproportionate assets. The charge sheet was filed before the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Tiruvarur under the relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act ,1988 as amended in 2018 and under the provisions of the Indian Penal Code.

In a statement, the DVAC Tiruvarur unit said that it had been pursuing a case of acquisition of assets and other resources to the tune of Rs 58. 44  (Fifty-eight crore, fourty four laks)which was disproportionate to the known sources of income of the former minister and his associates.

The DVAC on investigation found that the minister had acquired stakes in NARC Hotels Private Ltd and also purchased assets in the name of his close associates,  R. Chandrakasan, B. Krishnamoorthy and Udhayakumar.

The Vigilance department further said that a hospital, Sri Kamatchi Medical Centre was promoted by his sons MK Eniyan and K. Inban at an amount of Rs 127,49,000 (One hundred and twenty seven crores, and fourty nine lakhs )which was disproportionate to the known sources of his income. The press statement of the DVAC said that the minister could not satisfactorily explain this transaction.

It is to be noted that Kamaraj was a minister for Food and Civil Supplies in the previous AIADMK government.
