Heavy rains lashed Chennai and surrounding areas on Thursday early morning hours. Arumbakkam, Moggapeyar, Koyambedu, Maduravayal and Poonamalle in Chennai witnessed heavy rains during early hours. Parts of Chengalpattu and Kancheepuram also received heavy rains during the wee hours of Thursday.
Heavy rains have led to traffic congestion in many parts of Chennai and surrounding areas. This led to long spiraling queues during morning hours.
The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has forecasted moderate rains and thunderstorms in Chennai, Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Villupuram, and Thiruvannamalai districts of Tamil Nadu.
It may be noted that the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rains in some parts of Tamil Nadu on Thursday along with thunderstorms.
The IMD has also predicted rains in many districts in Coastal Andhra Pradesh.
