Thiruvananthapuram, July 23 (BPNS)
With political discussions rife over the successor to the late Chief Minister of Kerala, Oomen Chandy, his daughter Achu Oomen has clearly said that it is his son Chandy Oomen who will succeed his father.
Speaking to a local television channel, Achu Oomen said that her father had himself stated that it is Chandy Oomen who will be the political successor.
It is to be noted that Oomen Chandy was a sitting legislator and represented the Puthupally assembly constituency in Kottayam district since the past five decades. Oomen Chandy had entered the Kerala legislative assembly for the first time in 1970 and continued to represent the constituency 12 times in a row.
With the passing away of Oomen Chandy, the seat has fallen vacant and speculations were rife on who will be representing the Congress in the ensuing by-election for the seat. Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC ) President, K. Sudhakaran had categorically stated that the candidate who represent Puthupally as a successor to Oomen Chandy will be from the family.
The statement of Achu Oomen is clear that it is indeed Chandy Oomen who is the politician from the family. There were reports that there was bickering in the family between Achu and Chandy Oomen but with the statement from Achu Oomen it is clear that it will be Chandy Oomen.
