Jio Studios & Wide Angle Creations’ Tamil film Appatha, helmed by National Award winning director Priyadarshan, is lining up for a direct-to-OTT release through Jio Cinema on July 29.
Produced by Jyoti Deshpande, Suresh Balaje and George Pius, it is legendary actress Urvashi’s 700th film with music by Rajesh Murugesan.
The song album of the film with lyrics by Velumurugan, will be released by Panorama Music as their first South venture.
Penned by Hardik Gajjar, Appatha takes viewers into the world of Kannamma, also known as Appatha who has spent all her life in the village of Kaayilanpatti. She raises her son by herself after losing her husband while also making a name for herself with her business. Strong and fearless, she has only one true fear and that is her fear of dogs.
Watch as she reconnects with her estranged son, who brought her to the city only for her to realize she needs to keep an eye on the family dog Zeus while they go on a vacation. The duo goes from trying to stay away from each other to nearly becoming inseparable.

Rajesh Menon, Chief Executive Officer, Panorama Music, is extremely upbeat about their new acquisition. He points out that Priyadarshan is a director with a pan-India appeal.

Menon adds that having a legendary actress like Urvashi heading the cast, in a film which is a personal milestone for her, is like the cherry on the cake. “We couldn’t have asked for a better start to our journey down South which will now pick up pace as we bring more such heartwarming stories and their music to the screen”.
