Tamil Nadu police have commenced a crackdown on some people associated with a major drug haul which was busted by the police on Monday. Six people were arrested and remanded in judicial custody. However police said that they are on the lookout for the accomplices of those who were arrested.
Sources in Nagapattinam police told BPNS that the police is conducting raids in the residential premises of some people who are connected with the drug haul.
It may be noted that Nagapattinam police had arrested six persons on Monday while they were trying to smuggle 300 kg of ganja to Sri Lanka from Nagapattinam. Ganja was transported from the border areas of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh to Nagapattinam and the racket was trying to smuggle it to the island nation through the sea route.
Special team of the police received an intelligence tip off and based on this the vehicle was intercepted and people inside it arrested along with the contraband.
The arrested persons are identified as, V. Ravi (42) of Agasthiyampali, M. Lakshmanan (43) of Kodiyakkadu, M. Ravi (28) and K. Vedhamani (32) from Thethakudi, M. Kumar (41) of Kunnam, Peramballur district and J. Mayakrishnan (29) of Madurai district.
Police have registered a case against the above six persons under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
