Chennai, Aug 13 (BPNS)

AIADMK ousted leader and former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu ,O. Panneerselvam (OPS) has urged the Tamil Nadu government to bring harmony among school and college students of various communities. The former Chief Minister was responding to the attack on the residence of a Dalit boy in Nanguneri in Tiruneveli district by a group of his class mates belonging to an intermediate caste.

It may be recalled that the Dalit boy was attacked by lethal weapons including sickle and the younger sister of the boy was also injured while she was trying to save her brother.

The former Chief Minister in a statement on Sunday referred to the Nanguneri incident and said that teachers should impart the ideals of patriotism, humanity, moral values among others to students. He also said that efforts should be taken to strengthen teaching techniques and student –teacher relations.

It may be noted that a heavy police contingent is deployed in parts of Tirunelveli district after the attack on the Dalit boy and his sister by his classmates from an intermediate caste. Tirunelveli district of Tamil Nadu has a previous history of violent incidents in the name of caste in which many people have lost their lives hence to prevent any untoward incident to take place, a heavy contingent of police is being deployed at caste-sensitive areas of the district.
