Jayalalithaa had faced brutal attack in state legislature assembly on March 24, 1989. He was speaking to media persons at Madurai airport on Sunday.

It may be recalled that Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin had said that the statement of Union Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman in parliament that Jayalalithaa was attacked by DMK men in Tamil Nadu assembly was a ‘Drama’. Edappadi K. Palaniswami was countering the statement of Stalin and added that he as a legislator was witness to the barbaric attack on Jayalalithaa by the DMK men.

He said that March 24, 1989, has been recorded as the ‘Black day’ in the Tamil Nadu assembly.

The AIADMK general secretary said that the AIADMK legislators,S. Thirunavakkarasu (now in Congress) and K.K.S.S.R Ramachandran who is presently a minister in the DMK government, had tried to prevent the attack by the DMK legislators in the state assembly. Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS) said that a DMK leader who is presently a senior minister in the Stalin government had even pulled the sari of Jayalalithaa.

EPS said that she had then vowed that she would return to the state assembly only as the Chief Minister and in 1991 the people of Tamil Nadu returned her with a huge majority to the assembly as Chief Minister.

The former Chief Minister said that he still vividly remembers the cruel act on a woman in the state legislature assembly by DMK men and said that the Chief Minister M.K. Stalin was making a false statement on the incident by saying that it was a ‘Drama’.

EPS also said that the media had reported the incident extensively those days and added that the how would the DMK allowed it to be recorded in the assembly.

He said that the people of Tamil Nadu would give a fitting response to the DMK in the ensuing parliament elections of 2024 and added that the ruling front of Tamil Nadu would face a crushing defeat in the polls.

The former Chief Minister also added that such a dastardly act occurred in the assembly as the house was not conducted properly. He added that no action was taken against any DMK legislature in the barbaric act unleashed on a woman leader within the assembly and added that this was the DMK’s style of functioning.
