Chennai, Aug 13 (BPNS)
Tamil Nadu health minister, Ma Subramanian said that the state Governor R.N. Ravi has nothing to do with the anti-National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET) bill and that the bill was with the President of India for assent. He was responding to the statement of the Governor in a programme on Saturday that he would never give assent to the anti-NEET bill passed by the Tamil Nadu assembly.
The minister on Sunday said that the Governor has already sent the bill to the President and that his job was over with this. He said,” He has nothing to do with the bill and there is no need for his consent”.
Ma Subramanian also said that the state legislative assembly had readopted the bill that sought exemption for the state of Tamil Nadu from NEET after the Governor had returned it.
The minister also said that if the President of India is satisfied with the anti –NEET bill and if assent is given, that information will be shared with the Governor.
It may be noted that the Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Ravi had on Saturday in an interaction with top scorers in NEET -2023 said that NEET will remain in the country. He also said that he wanted the students of Tamil Nadu to feel intellectually disabled and wanted them to compete with the best.
Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Ravi and the ruling DMK have been at loggerheads on several issues and NEET is one of them.
