Infant abducted from TN hospital, rescued, woman culprit  arrested

An infant two-day-old male baby was kidnapped from Vellore Government Medical College hospital on August 19th Friday evening.

An infant two-day-old male baby was kidnapped from Vellore Government Medical College hospital on August 19th Friday evening. The male baby is the son of K. Sundar (40), who is a labourer from Kannamangalam town, and his wife S. Suriyakala( 37). Suryakala gave birth to a male baby boy on August 17th and was staying in the hospital for undergoing a family planning programme.

On August 19th evening after she woke up from sleep, she found the child missing and immediately informed her husband and police.

Vellore Superintendent of Police, Manivannan constituted four police teams and commenced search and analysed the CCTV visual at the hospital and also at the nearby bus and railway stations.

The CCTV visuals from the hospital revealed of a woman hurriedly moving from the hospital after taking hold of the child. The police traced the woman to the nearby bus stop and the bus moving towards Kancheepuram.

Police teams of Ranipet and Kancheepuram coordinated and found that the woman was S. Padma. The police took her into custody on Monday morning at 1.30 am and took the child with them.

The child was taken to the Vellore Government hospital for further health checkups.
