The Kerala forest department has issued an alert after two leopards were spotted at Vallakadavu in Vandiperiyar of Idukki district.  The place where the two leopards were spotted is a densely populated area.

Johnson, an autodriver who spotted the leopards while speaking to IANS said, “I was riding a two wheeler when suddenly a huge leopard jumped into the road from the nearby forest area. One more leopard followed and crossed into the adjacent forest area. We stopped the vehicle, but both the leopards went inside.”

Local people immediately informed the forest department and forest officials reached the spot and are camping in the area.

With the leopards coming out into the road at a thickly populated area, the department has issued an alert for people not to venture out into the open at night. A forest patrol team is also deployed in the area to wade off the leopards if it comes again in the open.
