An elderly couple was murdered in Erode on Saturday morning. The deceased are identified as K. Muthuswamy (85) of Kariyangattu Thottam and his wife, Samiyathal (80).
Police said that the couple were living alone in their house and their three daughters were married and residing somewhere else. The murder was detected after their grandson came to the residence of the elderly couple and found them dead.
Erode district superintendent of police, Jawahar told media persons that the circumstantial evidence lead to the couple having taken their dinner at night and went to bed. The burglars, according to the police seems to have opened the latch of the door using an iron rod and entered the home, and murdered the couple.
A gold chain, earrings worn by Samiyathaal were stolen from the home and police is taking stock of the valuables that were missing from the home as the burglars have broken almirahs.
