Students of a government primary school in Usulampetti in Thoothukudi district had breakfast on Tuesday after DMK leader and Member of Parliament, Kanimozhi intervened.
The students of Government primary school in Usulampetti in Thoothukudi district had refused to consume the free breakfast under the state government scheme as the food was cooked by a Dalit woman .
The Dalit woman , Muniyaselvi was a member of a
Self help group. Officials found that there were excess food materials in the school and when they questioned the cook , she said that 9 out of 11 students didn’t consume breakfast under the CMs free breakfast scheme. She told the officials that while children were willing to eat, the parents had prevented them from consuming it.
Muniyaselvi told media persons that she had not raised a complaint in the matter but when the monitoring officials questioned about the excess food materials, she revealed about the matter.
Kanimozhi , DMK deputy general secretary and sister of Chief Minister MK Stalin is the Member of Parliament from Thoothukudi. When she came to know of the matter , she rushed to the school along with minister Geetha Jeevan and Thoothukudi district collector Senthil Raj.
The MP insisted that she will eat with the children and all the children ate the breakfast along with her.
