No Nipah virus detected in TN, Health minister

Tamil Nadu health minister Ma Subramanian said that no cases of Nipah virus were detected in Tamil Nadu.

Tamil Nadu health minister Ma Subramanian said that no cases of Nipah virus were detected in Tamil Nadu.  The state health minister was speaking to media persons in a press conference held at Chennai on Saturday.

However the state health department has stepped up checks in areas bordering Kerala and health department staff along with police are speaking to each and every passenger at the 6 check posts in state bordering Kerala.

The health minister also said that there were 3 deaths due to dengue in Tamil Nadu since the last eight months starting from January. Ma Subramanian said 4048 people were affected with dengue in Tamil Nadu.

The minister however said that the spread of dengue and malaria acre common during the monsoon season and called upon the people to excise caution during the next three months.

It is to be noted that Tamil Nadu health department is conducting a district level awareness campaign on Dengue fever and has directed the district medical officers to conduct awareness programme against dengue fever at the level of Primary Health Centres(PHC)s.
