After a Theni youth, Vadivel met with a road accident, doctors declared him brain dead. The family of the 43 year old man decided to donate his organs.
The 43 year old Vadivel was working in the Tamil Nadu government as Senior revenue inspector with Theni collectorate and while he was returning home in a two wheeler ,he fell down when a cow unexpectedly hit him. In the fall he hit his head and was declared brain dead when he was brought to the government hospital, Theni.
Vadivel was cremated with full state honours as the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister has declared a couple of days before that organ donars would be cremated with full state honours. Stalin has then said that the family members were donating the organs despite they were in grief and announced that funeral will be done with state
This is the first such funeral for an organ donor with full state honours.
The organs of Vadivel including his kidneys, liver, eyes and skin were donated after they were retrieved from the body.
The organs were donated to those who were in the waiting list for Organ transplant at Madurai Appolo hospital and Rajaji Government Medical College hospital, Madurai.
