Madurai district in TN reports 79 Dengue cases in September, health department alert

With 79 Dengue cases reported in September 2023, the Madurai district health administration has speeded up the preventive measures to stall the spread of the disease.

With 79 Dengue cases reported in September 2023, the Madurai district health administration has speeded up the preventive measures to stall the spread of the disease.

While no deaths have been reported, the increase in 30 odd cases more when compared to August has worried the authorities. It may be noted that in Madurai district 49 cases were reported in the month of August.

The health department authorities told BPNS that the health rapid response team along with local health authorities have been conducting fever camps in all the 13 blocks in the rural areas of the district. One team is taking care of the fever camp in the Urban area of Madurai district.

The district health department has also directed the local body workers to clean the water clogging and other unhygienic places. The district administration will issue notices to shop owners and residents who fails to maintain the hygiene in their surroundings.

Senior health department officials told public not to try self medication for fever related diseases and instead visit primary health centres or hospitals immediately.

The health department officials also called upon people to cover water containers to prevent the Aedes mosquitos from breeding. The health authorities said that a ward dedicated to Dengue patients is set up in Government Rajaji Medical College hospital, Madurai  and 40 beds have been allocated to treat the disease.
