Amid heavy rains TN holds 12th mega vaccine camp against Covid 19

Amid heavy rains lashing several districts of the state, the Tamil Nadu health department conducted its 12th mega vaccination camp on Sunday. People are vaccinated at 50,000 camps spread across the state on Sunday with 1600 camps in Greater Chennai Corporation inoculating people.

The State health minister, Ma Subramanian while speaking to BPNS said, “Amid heavy rains, we are conducting  vaccination against Covid -19 at 50,000 places across the state and this is due to the inspirational leadership of our Chief Minister as well as the undying spirit of the professionals in the health department.”

He said that travelers from South Africa who reach the state will have to undergo quarantine for 8 days amid the threat of Omicron. The minister also said that Covid -19 vaccination is a must for those visiting public places including those who visit  Tasmac liquor shops in the state.

The minister inspected the mega vaccination camp at Adayar along with higher education minister, K. Ponmudi and said that 77.3% of the population have been vaccinated with the first dose while the second dose coverage was 42.10%.

Ma Subramanian said that Tamil Nadu was nearing the national average in Covid -19 vaccination and said that about 78 lakh people are due to take the second dose of the vaccine.

The minister also said that travelers from South Africa, China, Botswana, Hong Kong, Brazil, and Italy will be tested at the Chennai international airport for any presence of Omicron variant.
