The Tamil Nadu police have beefed up security for the US Consulate in Chennai and a Jewish settlement in Dindigul after central intelligence agencies have given an alert. This is following the killing of Al Qaeda chief Ayman al- Zawahiri in a US drone attack in Kabul, Afghanistan on July 31.
The central agencies have given inputs to the state police to enhance the security at US missions and Israeli missions as well as consulates of other Western countries. The inputs also directed police to increase the patrolling in front of the foreign missions.
The Union government has also called for more security for Jewish establishments following the recent Israeli air strike in Gaza in Palestinian settlements, leading to the death of around 30 people including 6 children.
The special cyber crime wing of the state police is closely monitoring the social media posts of several individuals and organizations, according to information available from state police sources.
Tamil Nadu police chief, C. Sylendrababu has called a high-level meeting of police officers in the range of Inspector General and above on the security measures to be taken across the state in the wake of the threat issued by the central agencies as well as increasing security to vital installations in the run-up to the Seventy-Fifth Independence day celebrations.
