Chennai, June 12 ( BPNS)

Even after several complaints from local people against unabated bike racing at Old Mahabalipuram Road (OMR), the racing continues. On Sunday morning the bike racers hit a 60-year-old woman who was seeking directions to turn to Tambaram area in the city.

The unidentified woman was hit by a high-end race motorbike in which two youths were riding. The high-end bike, according to onlookers and passersby, was in full throttle and when it hit the scooty the woman was kicked up and fell to the road with her head hitting the road.

The impact of the accident was heavy that the woman was declared brought dead at a local hospital. The bike rider, Vishwa (25) of Mudichur was hospitalized with a fracture.

Police said that the identity of the deceased woman is yet to be confirmed but she was carrying a canteen card of the Tamil Nadu state police.

The body of the woman is sent to Chrompet government hospital for postmortem.

R. Radhakrishnan, a software engineer who lives near the OMR highway whiles speaking to BPNS said, “The bike stunts are routine at this place and on holidays it is heavy. Ordinary people and the elderly who are traveling for their small purchases and house visits are suffering from this undue pace in two-wheeler racing. This accident is a pitfall of the lethargy on the part of the local police even after we have complained several times against this.”
