Chennithala alleges rampant irregularities in electoral rolls

opposition leader Ramesh chennithala on Wednesday alleged that there were concerted attempts to sabotage the April 6 assembly election with large scale duplication of names in the voters lit. He released a list of such bogus entries in several constitutuencies in the electoral list published by the election commision on January 20, 2021.

Chief electoral officer Teeka Ram Meena has — on the basis of complaint from Ramesh — sought a report from the district collectors. who are also the district electoral officers, by march 20. He has also instructed immediate legal action in case the charges are found true.

Ramesh told a news conference that the alarming facts were revealed when congress workers examined the voters’ list. There were instances of a person been added four – five times in the voters list. The same photo and address were used for duplication in many cases while in some there has been slight change in the address in duplicate entries.

A voter named Kumar of Uduma constituency in Kasagod appears five times in the rolls, using the same photo and address. The Election commission has also issued five election IDs to this voter, he said
