A Class XII girl student of a government school in Villupuram district of Tamil Nadu died in the classroom on Wednesday. Police suspect the death to be a case of suicide.

Police said that the girl was found in an unconscious state in the classroom and she was taken to the Kannai Primary Health centre and from there to Villupuram Government Hospital where she died.

Police said that investigation is on.

It may be noted that the suicide of a Class XII girl student from the hostel of a private school in Kallakurichi has led to public ransacking the school and setting to fire school buses and police vans.

Two more girl students committed suicide in two different incidents in the state and this has resulted in the state school education department conducting awareness programmes among school students.

Police are however yet to confirm whether the Villupuram student has died of suicide.
