Coimbatore police arrest woman ganja peddler

Chennai, May 5 (BPNS)

The Coimbatore police on Thursday arrested a woman ganja peddler from her rental home along with 50 kg of ganja. Police said that the woman, Jayapandiyammal (30) had stocked the ganja in rented premises at Kangeyampalayam near Sulur.

The woman was living alone at Kombakattupudur at Tiruppur after separating from her husband, Malaiswamy.

Police said that it was another drug peddler, Rajesh Kannan from Madurai who had smuggled in the contraband ganja from Vishakapattanam and stored it at the rented house of Jayapandiammal.

She was involved in the segregation of ganja leaves and supplied them to the local ganja peddlers.  Police said that Rajesh Kannan bought 1 kg of ganja at Rs 12000 from Vishakapattanam and sold it for Rs 50,000 in the Coimbatore market.

The 50 kg ganja seized from the residence of Jayapandiammal is worth 25 lakhs, according to the police.

Coimbatore district superintendent of Police, R. Badri Narayanan while speaking to media persons said, “ We have seized 226 kg of ganja from  April 1 to May 5, 2022, and arrested 150 peddlers. We have approached the people to provide information of ganja peddlers and we have promised to keep the identity of informers a secret.”

Police said that Jayapandiammal will be produced before the court on Thursday after interrogation at Sulur police station.
