The districts of Coimbatore and Tirupur started imposing new curbs after a slight spike in Covid- 19 cases. Coimbatore on Wednesday reported 226 cases while it was only 208 cases on Tuesday.
Tamil Nadu health officials are keenly watching the sudden increase in the number of fresh Covid -19 cases. The number of active cases also rose to 2085 and 184 people were discharged after Covid treatment.
The Test Positivity Rate at Coimbatore on Wednesday was 1.9% which is the second-largest in the state after Thanjavur which read 2.7%.
Tirupur district also showed an increase in the number of Covid -19 cases with 92 new cases when compared to 85 cases on Tuesday.
After the slight increase in cases was reported from Coimbatore and Tirupur, the administrations of both the districts swung into action and initiated new curbs.
All shops in these two districts would remain closed on Saturdays and Sundays except for shops that sell groceries, milk, medicines, meat, and fish. The shops will function only from 6 am to 5 pm in these districts.
Tasmac shops will however continue to function from 10 am to 5 pm. Hotels will allow 50% of dine-in customers till 5 pm. After 5 pm only parcel services will be allowed from the hotels.
