The Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi leader and Member of Parliament from Chidabmabaram, Thol Thiruvamavalavan has called for protest marches across Tamil Nadu over the murder of two Dalit youths at Aarkonam allegedly by youths belonging to the Pattali Makkal Katchi on Wednesday late night.
The incident occurred when two Dalit youths who were sitting at a bus stop showed gestures on Vanniyar community youths at Guruvarajanpettai, Aarkonam in Ranipett district of Tamil Nadu. The deceased youths are identified as Arjunan(26) of Soghanur village and Suriya( 25) of Sembedu village.
Sources in the police department said that there was a compromise talk between the groups initially but later it went out of hand and the brutal attack took place in which two men lost their lives.Three youths are grievously injured in the attack.
Thiru Tholmalvalvan while speaking to BPNS said, “We have called for protest marches across Tamil Nadu over the killing of two youngsters by the goons of Pattali Makkal Katchi( PMK) who are members of a sand mafia at Guruvarajapet. We will not allow dalit’s to be butchered like this and will evoke the consciousness of the people of Tamil Nadu by organizing protests across the state.”
The bodies of the two youths are taken to Government Medical College, Vellore for postmortem while the injured are admitted at Ranipet district hospital.
A strong contingent of police personnel led by Rannipet SP, Sivakumar and Aarkonam DSP, Manoharan are camping at the site where tensions are escalated over the murder of the Dalit youths.
Rannipet SP, Sivakumar while speaking to BPNS said, “There were tensions over the murder, we have already taken into custody two youths and the situation is now turning normal”.
Two youths Madhan and Ajith are under police custody and three police teams are formed to nab the other members of the gang who were instrumental in the murder.
A group of Dalit youngsters including men and women blocked the roads on Wednesday late night leading to bringing the traffic to a standstill.
Meanwhile Pattali Makkal Katchi denied involvement in the murder and R Shamugham, district leader of PMK in Ranipet while speaking to BPNS said, “ It was an attack between two rival gangs and the PMK does not have any involvement in this. We demand strong action against the culprits and this has nothing to do with any political rivalry.”
