- August 9, 2021

Chennai, August 9(BPNS)

The DMK which is gearing up for the upcoming rural body elections to be held in the nine new districts of the state of TN in the month of September will be projecting the welfare measures of its government as the major poll plank.

In the recent meetings held with the party-state office bearers and district leaders and MP’s and MLA’s of these districts and chaired by the Chief Minister, M.K.Stalin has decided that the government in its three months in office have done exceedingly well and have struck a chord among the people of the state. The party wants to convert this goodwill to votes in the rural body polls which would be a major test for the popularity of the government.

Stalin, according to sources in the party, have insisted that the party win hands down in all the nine districts and that any loss would be gauged as a failure of the state government.

The nine districts that are going to polls are Kancheepuram, Chengelpet, Vellore, Ranipet, Villupuram, Thirupathur, Kallakuruchi, Tenkasi and Tirunelveli .

DMK would be projecting the recently launched “Makkali Thedi Maruthuvam” scheme of taking health care to the doorsteps of people and “Ungal Thoguthiyil Mudalamaichar” (Chief Minister in your constituency) which provide projects and services to beneficiaries as two major initiatives of the Stalin led government to reach out to the people.  An internal survey by the DMK found that both the schemes were well accepted by the people of the state.

It is to be noted that on May 7, the day M.K. Stalin was sworn in as Chief Minister, the government announced a Rs 4000 Covid -19 cash relief to all rice ration cardholders which connected the people to the government immediately.

As the delimitation process in the territorial wards of these nine new districts was not completed rural body elections were not held in these districts while in the rest of the 27 districts’ polls were held in December 2019. Supreme Court has given an order to conduct the rural local body polls in all the nine new districts by September 15 and hence political parties are gearing up for it.

Immediately after the conduct of the rural local body polls, the urban local body polls would be held and the state government has already given indications that it would take place by December 2021.
