Chennai, May 19(BPNS)
Leader of opposition in Tamil Nadu assembly and former Chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami had called upon the government to provide special assistance to people from the unorganized sector. The former Chief minister in a letter addressed to the Chief minister MK Stalin said that the workers be given a special assistance of Rs 2000 and a pack of rations.
He said that people from unorganized sector like daily wage workers, auto rickshaw drivers, hairdressers, pavement vendors, handloom and powerloom weavers, workers of fireworks and match industries, and people in construction and other informal types of activities were given a financial assistance of Rs 1000 each. He also said that ration was also provided to workers during the first wave of the pandemic when he was the Chief minister.
The former Chief minister said that no such initiatives are taken up by the government even though the workers are severely affected in the second wave of the pandemic.
It may be noted that unlike in the previous period when the DMK and AIADMK used to settle scores against each other after ascending power, Stalin has taken an inclusive path and has even included former Tamil Nadu health minister MR Vijayabhaskar in the 13 member all party legislature committee to monitor Covid-19. This was considered as a major initiative of the Chief minister that could lead to a total change of attitude in Tamil Nadu politics.
