- April 4, 2022

Chennai, April 4 (IANS)

The Woman’s wing of the Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FICCI FLO) has signed an MoU with Anna University for upskilling the women students of the university and making them suitable for industry. It is to be noted that FICCI FLO has its headquarters in New Delhi with 18 chapters across India and represents over 8000 women entrepreneurs and professionals who constitute the membership.  The Chennai chapter of FLO actively works for the empowerment of women in livelihood initiatives, skill training and village adoption programmes.

The initiative of the FICCI FLO will benefit 1500 girl students of 19 engineering colleges under Anna University. The initiative named ‘Campus to Corporate Skilling programme’ is to felicitate a smooth transition for students from their campus environments to that of a corporate and increase the chances of their success in that environment.

The skill upgrading programme of FICCI FLO will teach students to create effective resumes, improve their interview skills and make them mentally tough to manage the stress in the work environment.

Prof R. Velraj, Vice-Chancellor of Anna University in a statement on Monday said, “ Discussions that we had with Vanitha Venugopal, FLO skilling head and alumnus of Anna University, led to identifying gaps in the transition from college to the workplace. FICCI FLO’s dedication to upskill the women of the engineering colleges to get them corporate ready is commendable and we look forward to our students benefiting from this programme.”

The FICCI women’s wing according to its statement had embarked upon the upskilling programme after employability focused study in New Delhi based on 1,50,000 engineering students found that barely 7 per cent of engineering graduates are suitable for core engineering jobs.

The Campus to Corporate programme, according to the statement will consist of 10 sessions spread over a period of 5 weeks which will culminate with a graduation ceremony along with a certificate of completion that is worth 2 credits from their university. The FICCI FLO is focusing on Tier 2 and Tier 3 and ensured that 16 of the 19 engineering colleges from students are drawn are from Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities. This is due to the fact that the students from this category of cities are at a disadvantage when compared with other students of Tier 1 cities.

Prasanna Vasanadu, Chairperson, FICCI FLO, Chennai chapter while speaking to IANS said, “FLO Chennai is attempting to provide value-added skills and making our women students ready for corporate postings. Industry leaders today want industry-ready engineers and as a responsible business body, we at FICCI FLO felt the need to take the lead along with Anna University to help the industry by upskilling its potential workforce.”
