S. Fathima Beevi (40), hailing from Tirupurakundram in Tamil Nadu was paralyzed from her waist due to polio since she was eight months old. Hover she fought all odds and continued her education and became a Bcom graduate, married, and have two children.
She said that she faced several obstacles in life and it was only the support of her mother, emotionally, mentally, and financially that she continued with her life.
Speaking to BPNS, Fathima Beevi said, “I was mocked during my school days due to my physical condition. It was coach Ranjith who helped me overcome that trauma and I won several medals in the javelin, shot put, and discuss throw. “
The fourty-year-old polio-laden Fathima Beevi said that she turned to table tennis quite late in life and it was the relentless pursuit and support extended to her by table tennis coach Balaji that transformed her life.
Fathima Bheevi won silver in the para table tennis championship held on March 12, 2022, and has qualified to take part in the national table tennis para championship to be held on April 27, 2022, at Indore, Madhya Pradesh.
She said that she has requested an amount of Rs 50,000 and her travel and boarding expenses from the state government. Fathima Beevi said that she expects to win a medal at the national championship and wants the Tamil Nadu government to support her in this.
Fathima Bheevi also said that she was training from her home itself as she is not able to afford Rs 400 daily as her travel expense to the table tennis court.
While speaking to BPNS, Fathima Beevi said, “ I am now practicing from my home as I don’t have a vehicle and spending Rs 400 per day as travel expenses is out of bounds for me. I am not able to afford the travel and other expenses for the training and in fact, professional training is important before playing in a major tournament like nationals.”
She said that she was an orator and has participated in several competitions and won prizes and the fourty-year-old said that she had also directed a movie,” Maa”.
Fathima Beevi said that if proper training is undertaken she would be able to win several tournaments and competitions. She has won several local tournaments and is raring to go to the nationals to be held on April 27, 2022, at Indore, Madhya Pradesh.
