Chennai, Dec 26 (BPNS)
The Geological Survey of India (GSI) officials will conduct a detailed check at the Perampet village in Vellore district where mild tremors were taking place since December 21.
On Christmas Day, the tremors were a little high, and crack appeared in several mud huts. Vellore district revenue officer, K. Ramamoorthy who visited the site on Saturday while speaking to media persons said, “Villagers said that mild tremors were taking place in the area since December 21. However, on Saturday tremors took place between 1 pm and 4 pm and led to cracks in the walls of around 12 mud huts.”
He said that the district authorities have already informed the Geological Survey of India (GSI) officials for further testing of the area and the cause for the tremors.
With no quarries in and around Perampet area, the district revenue officers have ruled out the possibilities of blast from quarries being the reason for the tremors.
L . Swaminathan, a farmer from Perampet village while speaking to reporters said,” We have been feeling this for quite a few days and on Saturday, it was a bit high leading to cracks in the walls of 12 mud huts. The district authorities have reached here on Saturday and said that Geological Survey of India officials would be informed and we are expecting the GSI authorities and scientists to provide proper information on these recurring tremors and whether the danger quotient is high due to these tremors.”
