South Indian actor Bhavana said that she was devastated and wanted to get her dignity back after the sexual assault trauma that she had to undergo five years ago.
The actor said that she would give a strong fight without thinking about the outcome. The survivor was speaking after a five-year-long silence.
Bhavana gave a live interview to a private YouTube channel, ‘The Mojo Story ‘ in its programme, ‘The Global Town Hall’.
The noted actor who had played several prominent roles in Malayalam, Tamil, Kannada, and Telugu movies said that her family including her husband, close relatives, friends, and the general public had supported her during her traumatic period.
She said,” My dignity has been shredded to a million pieces” and added that it was her sheer willpower that kept her going. The actor said that she thought that all that she had undergone was a nightmare but in reality, she knew that it was not.
Bhavana said that she felt lonely even after a strong support system of her family and friends were with her. She said that she was in the courtroom for 15 days in 2020 from morning till evening but not on continuous days.
The survivor said that she was trying to prove every time that she was innocent and added that seven lawyers were cross-examining her and that incident was going through from morning till evening.
Bhavana said that her perpetrators were insulting her in social media after the traumatic incident and added that after the incident she was denied acting jobs in the Malayalam film industry. However, she said that Malayalam’s noted directors like Ashik Abu, Shaji Kailas, actor turned director Prithviraj and actor Jayasurya had offered her roles.
It may be noted that she was kidnapped in 2017 after she was returning home from a shooting location and was subject to a sexual assault by a gang of men.
The incident developed into a major controversy after the main accused Pulsar Sunil revealed that Malayalam’s popular actor Dileep was behind this. Dileep was arrested and is now on bail.
