IMD predicts rains in TN till May 17

Chennai, May 14 (BPNS)

The Regional Centre of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy to very heavy rains in several districts of Tamil Nadu till May 17.

The weathermen have forecasted heavy to very heavy rains in Salem, Dharmapuri, Tiruchi, Peramballur, Namakkal, and Thanjavur on Saturday. The IMD predicts that the ghat region will receive rains on all the days from Saturday, May 14th till May 17th, Tuesday.

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) of the IMD also predicted moderate to heavy rains at  Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Kallakurichi, Myladuthurai, Cuddalore, Villupuram, Tirupattur, and Vellore areas in the coming days.

Thunderstorms with light to heavy rains are predicted over Chennai and adjoining districts on these days, the weather department said. The maximum temperature is likely to be around 34 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature 24 degrees Celsius.

Velankanni received the highest rains on Friday at 13 cm followed by 8 cm each in Talavadi in Erode and Yercaud in Salem.

The Tamil Nadu Chief secretary has sent directions to all district collectors to be on high alert following the prediction of heavy to very heavy rains in many parts of the state till May 17th. The rapid response force and other emergency departments are also put on alert following the report from the weathermen.

Police, revenue, and health officials are also given directives by the state government to be on high alert following the prediction of the weather department.
