Rajagopal, in Tiruvendurai village, was in for a shock when he was informed that he had to get a No- objection certificate (NOC) from the Wakf Board office in Chennai for selling his one-acre land.
The villager, who was shattered checked all his documents and found that it was all intact and in place.
When checked, the block development office informed him that all the land in Tiruchendurai village belonged to the Wakf board and people who wanted to sell the land needs an NOC from Wakf headquarters in Chennai.
However, the district administration officials did not find any truth in the claims of the Wakf Board. There was no information available on Muslims owning the land in the area was found.
It is known that the Wakf Board head office from Chennai has sent a 20-page letter to the 12 registration offices in Tiruchi district of Tamil Nadu . The letter claimed that it had land in several areas of the district.
It is to be noted that the 1500-year-old famous Sundaresar temple is in Tiruchendurai and the customs and traditions related to Srirangam temple were held in the village.
When contacted the Tiruchi The district administration officials told BPNS that are looking into the matter. However, Wakf board officials refused to comment when contacted by BPNS.
