Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, M.K. Stalin has written to Union External Affairs minister, S. Jaishankar to immediately intervene in the arrest of 12 Indian fishermen (7 from Tamil Nadu and 5 from Puducherry) who were taken into custody by the Sri Lankan Navy on Sunday.
Stalin in his letter mentioned that the innocent Indian fishermen were arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy along with their mechanized boat. In his letter to the Union minister, Stalin said that the fishermen of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry had resumed fishing after the 60-day ban on June 15th and the arrest of 12 fishermen has led to a sense of insecurity and fear in the coastal areas of Tamil Nadu.
Stalin also requested the Union External affairs minister to take up the matter with the Sri Lankan government through proper diplomatic channels.
