The Cybercrime police of Tamil Nadu has summoned the state president of the BJP IT cell, C.T.R. Nirmal to question him in a case related to his social media post.
The Cybercrime wing issued a notice to him on Monday under CrPc Section 41(A) and directed him to appear before them on April 8th. The police can arrest a person without a warrant under this section if needed.
Cybercrime sleuths when contacted said that a case has been registered against him under Sections 153 ( wantonly giving provocation with the intent to cause riot) and 505 (I)(b) ( statements conducting to public mischief with an intent to cause or which is likely to cause, fear or alarm to the public) of the IPC and Section 66 D( punishment for cheating by personation using computer resource) of the Information Technology Act 2008.
CTR Nirmal while speaking to BPNS said, “ I don’t know as to why the Cyber Crime police have summoned me. I received a notice on Monday stating that I have to appear before the Cyber police at 11 am on April 8th.”
He said that this was a politically motivated case and that he would fight it legally. The police notice, according to Nirmal said, “ There are reasonable grounds to question you to ascertain facts and circumstances from you in relation to the present investigation.” He said that however, the police notice did not mention on what grounds he was being questioned.
