The Income Tax has on Tuesday cancelled the 80G registration of the Popular Front of India(PFI) citing violation of IT rules benefitting to a particular society.
The IT department noted that the PFI was engaged in destroying good will and brotherhood among different communities. According to the order issued by the IT department on Tuesday, the PFI has been applying the benefits to one particular religious community violating sections 13(1)(b) of the IT Act, 1961, attracting the provision of section 12AA(4)(a) of the IT Act.
It may be recalled that the Solicitor General of India, Tushar Mehta while appearing for the Uttar Pradesh Government in Supreme Court of India has stated that the Centre is in the process of banning PFI and that it has been banned in several states of the country. Tushar Mehta during the argument said that the office bearers of the PFI were associated with the banned Islamic outfit, Student Islamic Movement of India(SIMI).
During the argument against the arrested Kerala Journalist, Siddik Kappen, Tushar Mehta said that the Government had arrested four people having links with the PFI in Mathura- Siddique Kappan from Malappuram, Atiq- ur –Rahman from Muzaffarnagar, Masood Ahmad from Bahraich and Alam from Rampur.
The Popular Front of India was also involved in the palm chopping of a College professor ,TJ Joseph of Nirmala College, Muvattupuzha on July 4,2011 on allegations of blasphemy.
