Chennai, July 23 (BPNS)
Cuddalore and Kallakurichi district police have beefed up security as the body of the Plus two student who committed suicide on July 13 from the hostel of a private residential school reached her hometown.
Kallakurichi Superintendent of Police, R. Pakalavan escorted the body from Kallakurichi Government general hospital, and security is beefed up across both the districts.
The body of the girl was received by her parents from the Kallakurichi Government hospital and brought to her hometown at Periyanesalur village in Cuddalore district. The body has reached her hometown amid emotional scenes with the families, relatives, and neighbours seen wailing as the body reached home.
Cuddalore district superintendent of Police, Sakthi Ganeshan while speaking to BPNS said, “Police have beefed up the security in this area as the body of the girl has reached her home.”
Subramanian, a farmer who is neighbour of the girl told BPNS, “We don’t want any outsiders to reach the funeral of our beloved girl. Her father was a farm hand like us and he had gone to Singapore and her mother was working as an insurance advisor and slowly they picked up in their economic status. The girl was daily commuting to school until July 1 and she joined the hostel only then. It is a real tragedy to our whole village.”
With the police tightening up security and local people not allowing any outsiders to the place, the last rites will be performed soon. Cuddalore district administration and district police have made all arrangements for conducting her last rites.
It may be recalled that following the suicide of the girl, the family was conducting a silent protest in front of the school from July 13, Wednesday onwards but it turned suddenly violent on July 17th, Sunday. A mob vandalized the private residential school, torched several school buses, police bus, and assaulted police.
Kallakurichi District collector, District Superintendent of Police, and Inspector General of Police (Intelligence ) were shunted out following the violence.
