Kallakurichi tense after police, students clash over death of Plus two student

Chennai, July 17 (BPNS)

Striking students of Kallakurichi clashed with police on Sunday and a police vehicle burnt after police fired in air following clashes with the students.

The students owing allegiance to left parties, certain Dravidian movements were striking after a plus two student of a government school here committed suicide a couple of days before. In the suicide note, the student had alleged about two teachers of having abused her.

Inspector General of Police, Pandyan told media persons that the two teachers who were allegedly being named in the suicide note were questioned but they were not arrested.

The striking students wanted the police to immediately arrest the teachers or else they would not disperse and roads were blocked. Police sources told BPNS that the students attacked the police contingent with stones and bottles and to disperse the crowd police restored to firing in the air. This agitated the students and they burnt a police vehicle.

The Inspector General of Police, Pandyan has reached the spot and has announced to the striking students to disperse. A  heavy police posse is deployed in the area.
