Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 26 (BPNS)

Even as a week has relapsed after the brutal killing of Advocate Ranjith Sreenivasan, state secretary of the OBC Morcha of the BJP, the Kerala police are in the dark over the Islamists who were behind the murder.

Ranjith a leading lawyer in the Alappuzha bar and a prominent face of the BJP in the district who had contested the assembly elections in 2016 from Alappuzha assembly seat was brutally killed in front of his mother, wife, and girl children at his residence on Sunday, December 19 at 6 am.

The murder was suspected to be in retaliation to the murder of the Islamist organization, SDPI state secretary K.S. Shan on December 18th night allegedly by RSS, BJP workers.

While all the accused in the Shan murder case were arrested, the police are in the dark over the killers of Ranjith and had drawn flak from all corners.

The state president of BJP, K. Surendran while speaking to BPNS said, “The Kerala police have become dormant and inefficient and the killers of Advocate Ranjith Sreenivasan are still at large and it seems that the SDPI criminals are getting protection from the top. How else can one understand the inefficiency of police for the past one week after a prominent advocate has got killed in broad daylight at his home. Kerala police have to immediately arrest these criminals before justice.”

Congress has also come out against the lethargy of state police and state Congress president, K. Sudhakaran while speaking to BPNS said, “ Why is the Kerala police this much lethargic in arresting criminals who have done a heinous murder in broad daylight in the heart of Alappuzha city.”

The Kerala police have however claimed that the police team is behind the killers and that everyone will soon be under the net. ADGP Vijay Sakhare who is in charge of the investigation while speaking to media persons said that the state police teams are on the lookout for the criminals who are directly involved in the murder. He said that the Kerala police teams are in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka in search of the killers.

Meanwhile, Kerala police have said that one of the SDPI activists who had directly participated in the murder is in their custody but has not revealed his name and details. Police sources said that the person in their custody hails from Alappuzha city and was living close to the slain leader Ranjith Sreenivasan’s residence.
