OPS demands increase in vaccination to prevent the third wave

AIADMK chief coordinator and former Chief Minister O Panneerselvam has demanded increased vaccination in the state of Tamil Nadu as a preacuationary measure against the possible third wave of the Covid-19, pandemic.

In an official statement, the Deputy Leader of Opposition said that the people of the state must be made aware that they are responsible for preventing the third wave.

O Panneerselvam said that during the first wave of the pandemic, the maximum daily cases reported in the country was 97000 while it rose to 4.14 lakh during the second wave. He said that while the daily fresh cases in Tamil Nadu was 7000 during the first wave, it rose to 36,000 daily new cases in the second wave.

OPS said that as the second wave had caused devastating effects, the state and the country should be prepared for a third wave and take precautionary measures.

The former Chief Minister also called upon M.K. Stalin to increase the vaccination drive in the state. He said that Tamil Nadu needs around 16 crores of vaccine doses and the number of people taking the jab has to accelerate.

It is to be noted that the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, M.K.Stalin is in New Delhi to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the main reason for the visit is to increase the number of vaccine doses for the state.

Political analyst and former journalist M.K. Kasinathan while speaking to BPNS said, “OPS has brought out a serious issue in the forefront as to prevent third wave or rather its intensity, vaccination is the only solution, and hope the Government of Tamil Nadu increases the number of vaccinations and takes necessary precautionary measures.”
