Puducherry CM appeals to central government to airlift UT students from Ukraine

Puducherry Chief Minister, N. Rangasamy has in a letter to the Union External affairs minister, S. Jaishankar appealed to the Government of India to airlift students from the territory who are stranded in war-torn Ukraine.

The Chief Minister in the letter said that 23 students from the Union territory were stranded in Ukraine. Rangasamy requested the Government to evacuate the students from Puducherry at the earliest.

He also urged the Union external affairs minister to arrange food and other basic amenities through the Indian embassy in Ukraine until the students are safely airlifted back to the motherland.

The Chief Minister also furnished the names and contact numbers of the students from the UT who are stranded in Ukraine.

AIADMK leader and former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, O. Panneerselvam also appealed to the Union government to evacuate the students from Puducherry who are stranded in Ukraine.

The AIADMK leader in a letter to the Union external affairs minister, S. Jaishankar said, “ The students of Puducherry who are in Ukraine are in a state of panic and are short of food and drinking water.” He also said that the students are in a state of panic.

He also said that the students are staying in an unsafe place in war-torn Ukraine and requested the Government of India to coordinate with the Indian embassy in Ukraine for the speedy evacuation of the students from that country.
