The Mudalirapet police in Union Territory of Puducherry is in pursuit of two men accused of assaulting a journalist on Wednesday night.
According to the police, T. Udayanarayanan, founder of a Puducherry-based Tamil daily was returning home after covering a few assignments on Wednesday night in his two-wheeler. Police said that two unidentified men in a motorbike hit his vehicle from behind and he fell down. The men grabbed him by hand and hit him on his face and head and threatened him with dire consequences.
The assaulters left the place and a bleeding Udayanarayanan called his son and got himself admitted at Indira Gandhi Government General Hospital and Postgraduate institute.
However, Udayanarayanan told the police that he could not identify the culprits.
Police have registered a case under Sections 341 ( punishment for wrongful restrainment), 294(b)( obscene acts and songs),323 ( punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), and 506 (ii) ( punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code and are in a hot trial of the two accused.
The Journalist Union of Puducherry protested against the attack on Udayanarayanan and called upon the police and home minister to immediately arrest the culprits and bring them before the law.
