Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit has appointed eminent agriculture scientist and professor, Dr R . Jagannathan as the Vice-Chancellor of Periyar University, Salem.
He will hold the post of Vice-Chancellor for a period of three years from the date of assuming office, a release from the Governor’s office said.
Dr.R. Jagannathan has authored a book and co-authored four books and published 55 research papers. The eminent teacher had held positions of Dean, Agriculture at the Tamil Nadu Agriculture University, Coimbatore and has experience of 39 years of teaching. He has also presented 14 papers in international events and has organized five international academic/research programmes.
He has also one patent and two international memoranda of understanding.
The release said that Dr. Jagannathan had executed eight research projects worth Rs 7.65 crores and had guided 14 PhD scholars. He implemented several outreach programmes including on-campus training for farmers of tsunami-affected areas as also mass awareness programmes on new agriculture technology.
The Association of Agro Meteorology India had awarded him the “Service for Agri Meteorology in India” award in 2017.
