Rahul Gandhi was passing through the Noorul Islam Medical Sciences (NIMS) at Neyyatinkara during his Bharat Jodo Yatra and the organizers of the Kerala leg of the journey had agreed that he would inaugurate the memorials of the two Gandhian’s which was constructed at the hospital building. It may be noted that the hospital had taken care of both the Gandhian’s in their medical emergencies.

While the Congress scion who is leading the yatra ,passed in front of the NIMS hospital, he did not inaugurate the memorials of the Gandhians.

This erupted a controversy as families and friends of both the Gandhian including the wife of late Gopinathan Nair was waited at the hospital premises for the function.

Later Kerala Pradesh Congress President (KPCC),K. Sudhakaran apologized for the goof-up and promised the Managing Director of NIMS that a separate function would be organized for the inauguration.
