The samples of a Covid -19 positive couple and their one child who had returned from South Africa to Chidambaram in Tamil Nadu were sent for whole-genome sequencing to ascertain whether they have Omicron strain in their samples.
The couple and their children had arrived from South Africa on December 15th and their test samples were negative and the family was under home quarantine.
The health department Covid -19 protocol mandates international passengers from ‘at- risk’ countries to undergo a test after eight days of home quarantine and the samples of the couple were taken for testing on December 23.
The test results of the couple and one of the children have tested positive for Covid -19 and they are admitted at Rajah Muthiah Medical College and Hospital( RMMCH).
The samples of the couple and the child are sent for genome sequencing at the Public health laboratory, Chennai and the results are awaited.
