The “sexiest “ remarks made by Dindigul Leoni, a star campaigner and stand up artist, during the election campaign of Karthikeya Sivasenapathy, DMK candidate at Thondamuthur constituency in Coimbatore district has led to widespread hatred against the DMK and its candidate. This has reduced the chances of the party candidate in this constituency.
Lioni has in a public meeting body shamed women and said “Women’s hips are now like a “barrel” since they are drinking milk of foreign cows”.
He further said, “ There are several types of cows and the milkman will get milk from the foreign cow using machines. The women and children have become “bloated” after drinking that milk. Once women’s hips were like” eight” and they were able to carry their children on their hips, now the women hips have now become like a barrel and they are unable to lift children on their hips.”
The NDA alliance has already taken to the social media against the remarks of the DMK campaigner and is to take a door to door campaign across the constituencies of Tamil Nadu and to highlight the attitude of DMK on women
The BJP culture wing secretary Gayatri Raghuraman has already called upon the DMK leader and Member of Parliament, Kanimozhi to respond on the “sexiest” remark of the DMK star campaigner.
AIADMK leader MP Rajashekharan while speaking to BPNS said, “This is intolerable and it’s a clear indicator as to what the mindset of the DMK people are. The party must take stringent action against people who make such remarks against women. This is not our culture and this is a major issue as far as the Tamil culture is concerned which have high regards and respect for women.”
The DMK leader and candidate for Coimbatore assembly seat, Karthikeya Sivasenapathy is breeding native cows and the speech of Dindigul Lioni was to highlight the use of native cows. However he went overboard and even made lewd gestures using his fingers while making the speech against women.
Rajesh Krishnan, journalist with a Tamil vernacular while speaking to BPNS said, “This man used to make tongue in cheek remarks and sometimes crowd used to enjoy but this is too much. He should be reprimanded and taken to task, should never have the guts to speak like this again in a public space.”
Karthikeya Sivasenapathy is fighting a tough election against the AIADMK leader SP Velumany at Thondamuthur constituency in Coimbatore district. Velumany has won the constituency in 2011 and 2016 elections and with the statement of Dindigul Leoni, the chances of Karthikeya Sivasenapthy has dimmed.
