Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, M.K. Stalin has welcomed the Supreme Court judgment on 27 percent reservation for Other backward classes for admission to All India Medical courses. He said that the DMK’s relentless struggle for the past several years in the courts and in political arena had fructified due to the verdict.
In a statement on Friday, Stalin said “The Supreme Court ruling that 27% reservation for backward classes is a very important victory for the DMK and the people of Tamil Nadu who are committed to social justice.
This is a very important victory for the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and the people of Tamil Nadu who have an understanding and deep attachment to social justice, Stalin said.
The Chief Minister said, “4,000 students from backward communities across India will benefit from this every year. For the benefit of millions of backward people across the country, the DMK has appealed in the Supreme Court in the case and won it. I am happy and proud of that.”
The struggle waged by the DMK and the social justice movement in Tamil Nadu has given rights to the oppressed people across India, Chief Minister said.
This victory is in line with the contribution made by Tamil Nadu to the implementation of the Mandal Committee recommendations, Stalin said.
The DMK has been protesting in Parliament and in the state assembly against the continued denial of the rights of the other backward people.
The contribution made by Tamil Nadu, the pioneer state of social justice, and the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, which has an unwavering passion for social justice, will surely go down in history.
Recently, a wide range of medical colleges have been started in all the states and the opportunities for the students of that state to study in their respective states have increased, he said.
Stalin said that the DMK’s position is that each state should follow its reservation policy for admission to medical courses and fill 100 percent of the seats.
Chief Minister said that the DMK government will continue to fight for it and in the future to implement the quota for higher specialized medical courses – for the underprivileged and backward classes.
